Arenal has maintained constant activity since the time it re-awoke, after a span of nearly 400 years, with a huge eruption in 1968.
The Arenal Volcano National Park covers 12,016 hectares. Elevations range from 1000 to 1657 meters (3281 to 5436 feet), and the habitats represented within it are cloud forest, margin/edge, freshwater river, regenerating, tropical rainforest-lowland.
